Halloween with the Johnstons

This weekend we had the opportunity to enjoy the Halloween festivities with Beth (Joey's sister) and her adorable little family. We drove up on Saturday and helped the kids get ready for the neighborhood weinie roast. I painted the girls fingernails and toenails bright red so they could be "pretty" and match their Little Red Riding Hood and Ladybug costumes. Then we had a scavenger hunt all over the house to find Sam's missing Spiderman hat that went with his costume. He apparently lost it earlier in the week because he couldn't wait for Halloween. We never found it but I did find a baby's stocking cap that said "Santa's Little Helper" that we just turned inside out. It worked out pretty well.

Leah was appropriately dressed up as a clown. She tore through her candy bucket and was a total mess 5 minutes after getting back from trick or treating!

After the weinie roast and some trick or treating, we came back to the house and watched the effects of sugar on children. We all stayed up way later than we wanted and were thankful for the extra hour of daylight savings.

The next morning we got up for a good breakfast of oatmeal and leftover pumpkin donuts and went to church. As soon as we got home the kids wanted their daily piece of candy. Leah made the biggest mess of a Heath bar that I've ever seen.

Then we went outside where the girls played in the big inflatable jumping thing in the yard while Sam fed the cat (he's so responsible!).

Before we left, we helped the kids carve their last pumpkin. Brianna, Katelyn, and Sam all helped cut the top off. Only Brianna was brave enough to touch the pumpkin goop so the two of us pulled out all the seeds. Then Brianna carved a face on the pumpkin with some great coaching from Joey. I was really impressed with her little face!

It was a fun and tiring weekend. Joey and I were beat coming home Sunday night. We spent the evening vegging on the couch and enjoying the silence of being newlyweds...

Thanks Beth and Heath for having us!!! We can't wait til next time!
